Dr Rifat Chaudry – Paediatric Sleep and Respiratory Physician

Dr Chaudry is a UK trained Specialist in Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. Before moving to Sydney in 2015 with her growing family, she was working as a full time Consultant at the Royal London Hospital where she also covered Acute General Paediatrics, managing admissions from the Emergency Department and outpatient referrals. Her responsibilities also included running the Obesity service and serving as Clinical Lead for Sleep Medicine. Her Doctorate (MD) was attained from Imperial College London following three years of original research into “Cardiopulmonary function in children with Sickle Cell Disease”.

Since arriving in Sydney, Rifat has worked at Sydney Children’s Hospital and John Hunter Children’s Hospital in the Respiratory departments, between periods of maternity leave. Dr Chaudry has 18 years’ experience in tertiary and quaternary Respiratory medicine, having completed training in Glasgow and across London at leading children’s specialist hospitals:

Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, Royal Brompton Hospital in London (The National Heart and Lung institute) and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London. Areas of interest include childhood asthma, recurrent bronchiolitis, viral induced wheeze, chronic wet cough, noisy breathing, cystic fibrosis, congenital lung abnormalities, allergic rhinitis and sleep disordered breathing.


Dr Chaudry is happy to see children with a wide range of clinical issues and has a greater level of empathy and understanding since becoming a parent herself. A holistic approach is central to her clinical management, with the child’s individual needs kept paramount in the provision of practical and sustainable medical care.
